Coolmation has recently completed a project to design manufacture and deliver a 600kW containerised water cooling system for a major European internet hosting company.

Building a number of internet switching centers around Europe, the company often requires cooling within the buildings before the permanent system is installed. The containerised system is connected to allow partial commissioning of the telecommunications equipment, before being disconnected and transported to another site.

All of the equipment is housed within two standard forty foot containers which can be loaded onto standard road trailers, minimising the transportation costs.

When in commission, the containers are stacked one atop the other. The lower of the two contains the electrical control panel for the complete system, run and standby water circulation pumps, buffer tank and filtration equipment, all interconnected with 304 stainless steel pipework, which terminates at one end of the container with quick connect couplings.

The upper container houses two fairly standard 300kW Coolmation air cooled packaged chillers with water and electrical connections taken to one end and again terminating in quick connect couplings.

Installation is quick and simple, requiring only flexible hoses and cables to interconnect the two modules and to connect to the building. If a local electrical supply is unavailable, the system can be connected to a generator.

Although transportable in this case, Coolmations containerised cooling systems and pumping stations are ideal for roof, mezzanine or floor mounting, where space is at a premium or plant rooms unavailable.

Taking delivery of a packaged system keeps site work and installation costs to an absolute minimum. They can be designed to meet any cooling requirement, incorporating chillers, cooling towers or dry air coolers.
